Vending at the Very First Charm City Night Market 2018

The codex club joined the very first Charm City Night Market this year in Baltimore city near Lexington Market, the site of downtown Baltimore's historic and largely now extinct Chinatown.

There is only one original restaurant from that heyday left, ZhongShan. I remember going there to eat with family two years ago on Chinese New Year, hoping to see a Lion Dance or other people celebrating, and we were the only ones at the restaurant. It's a sense of community that is sorely missed in a city with a large Asian population.

So it surprised us that around 300,000 people rsvp'd to watch performances, eat, and shop at 200 Park Ave last night. I had no idea what to expect as far as projected business or foot traffic, and was taken aback in the best way. Sold out of most of our items (all sweaters and jackets; earrings, coffee, temporary tattoos, stickers and cards with our version of the maneki-neko good luck cat) in the first few hours and have taken it as a learning experience; Always come prepared to sell more!

We had such a great experience and found it a very well-run event that exceeded our expectations. Thank you to the Chinatown Collective, Stephanie Hsu, and our neighboring vendors Timpla and Michelle Lu for being awesome to work with! It was a pleasure.
